December 13th, 2010

Credit cards have made the lives of the people more convenient as they help you buy things of your choice instantaneously. In the early days of using credit cards, you may find it very appealing but it is after you gather a fair amount of credit into your account that you realize the difficulty involved. So before you get into the habit of constantly using your credit cards it is important that you learn to shrewdly manage the usage of credit cards. Here are a few tips that help you keep your credits at bay.

· First understand the need of having a credit card and decide if you really want one. It is better to avoid having credit cards unwarrantedly.

· Try carrying cash with you as much as possible and get into the habit of using the credit card only when you are running out of cash in hand. It is advisable that you keep away from buying the luxury items using the credit card. Remember that the zero interest rates are sometimes deceptive.

· Pay all your credit card bills on time so that it does not affect your credit score. Pay at least, the minimum amount to avoid diminishment of the credit rating. Don’t restrain yourself from paying the balance amount in full whenever you can afford.

· Find credit cards that demand interest amounts which you think is affordable and which suits your personal budgeting system. There are several credit card companies which offer the minimum payment up to 2% of the available balance.

· Do not use more than two credit cards out of which one can be used for personal requirements and the other one for business purposes and distribute and make timely payments for both.

Be careful not to over use the department store credit cards as they impose higher rates of interest. Understand that using credit cards needs equal intelligence as in investing in mutual funds. So, just as you learn how to buy mutual funds one must also know how to handle credit cards astutely.
